Many people go to networking meetings and all they do is talk about themselves and their business. Then as soon as they’re exhausted the topic with one person, they move on to the next one.  I’ve had this experience many times at networking groups. It's not a great way to make a first impression.

       It's easy to get seduced by the tools of marketing (Facebook, speaking, networking, Twitter, newsletter etc). And it's easy to  post random information without really knowing what to focus on or why.

     At its core marketing is about communication and if you don’t have a clear message, you can waste a lot of time using the tools and not getting results because your message isn’t resonating with people.

I've been writing marketing materials for many years. Again and again, I see first-hand how people downplay the importance of the message in favor of the tools. What happens? They end up sabotaging themselves.

This topic is rarely addressed because people get blinded by what everyone else is doing (these days that’s social media!) but without the foundation of clear communication that makes it work well.
